smartphone technologies: from hologram calls to mind-control texting

Smartphones are full of brilliant innovations that make our lives easier, from always knowing where you are with GPS to making video calls to anyone in the world from almost any location.
But after a firm called Cat unveiled the S60 smartphone with thermal imaging technology , which it boasted was the first bit of interesting smartphone innovation for years, it got us thinking about what other technology innovations smartphones may one day have.
So we put our thinking caps on and came up with list of weird, wonderful, wacky but hopefully useful ideas that future devices, such as the iPhone 22 and Galaxy S28, may come equipped with in the years ahead.
You probably haven't heard of the Yezz Sfera, which is a shame. The Android-powered smartphone with an integrated 360-degree camera was on show at CES 2016, but received relatively little fanfare in spite of its futuristic USP.
Hopefully the idea will gain traction, because the notion of bringing immersive 360-degree video to the masses is exciting. Anyone could create explorable holiday snaps, captivating action clips or basic VR experiences for, say, Google Cardboard.
Actual video quality will need to be improved from current levels - clips shot on the Yezz Sfera stutter a bit when moving around - but with such problems ironed out, mobile 360-degree cameras could be the biggest thing in small-scale shooting tech since the GoPro.
