Tunisia: Lawyers against 2017 budget for condition of poor

TUNIS - Tunisian lawyers on Wednesday began the so-called ''week of rage'' to protest against the 2017 budget package in the version proposed by the government, according to a statement released by the national lawyers' guild, one of four Tunisian associations that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015. The Tunisian attorneys asked for a new budget bill, claiming that the one proposed by the government ended dialogue with unions and associations.

The lawyers' protest includes daily sit-ins in tribunals across the country from 9 to 10 am. The ''week of rage'' will end, according to the statement, with a national lawyers' march in Tunis on November 4. Lawyers who take part in the protest will wear a red bracelet. The measures in the 2017 budget bill, according to Tunisian lawyers, are in contrast with the 2014 Constitution and would negatively affect low-income Tunisians.
