Means to promote and safeguard historical and archeological heritage in French-speaking countries debated


The Culture Ministry is working with Tunisian and international partners to devise a working strategy for the next years which takes into consideration the richness and specificity of the national heritage map and needs to make use of it to become a means of economic, cultural and social development, said Culture Minister Mohamed Zine el Abidine, Tuesday, at an international conference held under the sign: “Developing Cities: Development Policies and Public Appropriation of Heritage in French-Speaking Countries.”
Representatives of many participating bodies were unanimous in pointing out the importance of co-operation between national and international partners to determine the scientific steps to develop mechanism and policies to preserve heritage in concerned countries and step up bilateral and multilateral efforts to achieve these objectives.
The conference was attended by hundreds of researchers, archeology and heritage experts from French-speaking countries in Europe and Africa to discuss and evaluate the efforts exerted to protect, develp and manage historical and archeological sites in French-speaking countries.
The event is organised by the Culture Ministry in partnership with the National Heritage Institute (INP), the Tunis Municipality, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium, the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) and the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF).
